Page 6: Our Easter Tour:  First Day  5 April 1887

During this four day tour Walt and Amy visit relatives  in Cheshire. On the first day they begin by going to the ferry ('stage' = landing stage) to cross the Mersey from Liverpool to Birkenhead. where, after calling on relatives and Aunt Tobin, they ride down the Wirral peninsula to Chester via Arrowe and pass the then Shrewsbury Arms near Neston (see map below). The second inn 3 miles further on was possibly the Yacht.

web statistics Easter Tour First Day: pouring rain till 1pm; They start on tandem through the mud and wave to Ellis as they pass his shop

On the ferry landing stage a crowd admires the tandem

After visiting relations in Birkenhead they find the roads bad to Arrowe and observe approaching bad weather

With waterproofs they press on on the tandem through wind, mud and rain

The Shrewsbury Arms where we couldn't have tea and three miles further we ride away from another pub when we discover at the door that the same people keep the 2 pubs.
