Cycle ride from St. Asaph

A ride on traffic-free lanes above and through the unspoilt, beautiful Elwy valley with many fine views.

Route: St. Asaph - Nant Bach - Bont Newydd - St. Asaph (Photos of the Ride)

Distance: 15 miles

Ascent: 480 m. Though the first and last parts are pretty level for much of the ride there are fairly frequent undulations. There is one very steep gradient half way through after the first bridge.

Start: The free riverside car park on the left after crossing the bridge just before the town centre OS map 50,000 No. 116 Denbigh & Colwyn Bay Grid Ref: 034744

      The Ride

Turn Left out of the car park and first Left after going over the bridge signposted Betws-yn-Rhos 3181

After 1/4 of mile Go Straight Ahead at mini roundabout

Straight Ahead at roundabout near industrial estate and shortly Turn First Left at sign 'Unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles'

After 1¼ miles Keep Right near footpath sign

At hamlet after ¾  mile Turn 2nd Right signposted Llannefydd 3

After ¾ mile Turn Right signposted Nant Bach ½ & Abergele 7

After ½ mile Keep Left near Give Way and Unsuitable for heavy goods vehicle signs

After nearly ½ mile straight ahead at junction signposted Llanfair TH and Llannefydd

After 1 mile Fork Left downhill

Turn First Left and soon go over bridge and through first of 3 gates

Nearly 2 miles after bridge Turn 1st Left downhill

Turn First Right signposted Llannefydd

Turn First Left signposted Bont Newydd

Turn First Left signposted St Asaph 3 and go over bridge

Keep Left at bend signposted St Asaph

Turn Right at the B3181 and return to St Asaph keeping straight ahead at the mini-roundabout

St Asaph is a small cathedral town.
