Cycle Ride from Llyn Brenig

A quite strenuous ride through varied terrain - lake, forest, moorland, rolling hills and riverside with distant views of Snowdonia and nearer views of the Clwydian hills. There are a couple of miles or so of off-road forest tracks and a spectacular ride along the top of a dam wall at the end.

Route:  Llyn Brenig - Pentre Llyn Cymmer - Cyffilliog - Bontuchel - Llanfwrog - Clocaenog - Llanfihangel - Llyn Brenig  Photos of the ride

Distance: 30 miles

Ascent: 600m. The toughest climb is near the beginning out of the hamlet of Pentre Llyn Cymmer, though there is another quite steep ascent after Clocaenog. The climb to Clocaenog is prolonged but after the first bit much of it is relatively gentle. Most of the other ascents are more moderate and there are some relatively level sections.

Start:  car park at Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre Grid Ref: 967546 OS map 50,000:1 No. 116 Denbigh and Colwyn Bay

    Points of Interest

Llyn Brenig is a large lake in a very attractive setting with many opportunities for off-road cycling.

Cyffilliog is a small village in a deep valley surrounded by attractive countryside.

Llanfihangel is a tiny, tranquil hamlet strung out along an unfenced, traffic-free lane next to a river: there is a very pleasant picnic site.
