Uni' Student bids for Guinness Uni-Cycle 24 hr Record.

Student Sam Wakeling rides his uni-cycle

Aberystwyth University computer science student, Sam Wakeling, is awaiting confirmation of his bid for the Guinness Record for distance covered on a uni-cycle in 24 hours.

Riding on a 400 metre track Sam covered 282 miles, beating the existing distance of 235.3 miles achieved by Ken Looi in News Zealand two years ago.

Twenty-two year old Sam uses his uni-cycle as his main form of transport. It's got a massive 36 inch wheel and an air cushioned saddle for comfort. His longest ride in one day was150 miles from Manchester to Aberystwyth. He tries to maintain a steady speed of 14-15 mph.

Before his record attempt, Sam said he was expecting it to be the most exhausting thing he would ever do - an understatement if ever there was one! He expects others to try to beat his figure soon.

His effort was in aid of the charity Christian Aid
