Jon Snow new CTC President
Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow is to succeed Phil Liggett as President of CTC - the UK's national cyclists' organisation.
Announcing the appointment, which will take place from January 2007, CTC Council Chair Jill Kieran said, "We have been determined to find a new president who can match Phil's enthusiasm for cycling and CTC, and in Jon Snow we believe we have an excellent successor. To hear Jon talk about the part cycling plays in his life and his views on how it should be grown one cannot help but be enthused. His contacts and experience will be an invaluable resource for the organisation."
Jon Snow said, "I am hugely enthusiastic about cycling: there is hardly a day when I don't ride. In particular I want to play a part in making cycling safer, more accessible and getting more young people riding, so I am honoured to accept the position of President of CTC where I can help make that a reality."
Jon Snow has been chief presenter of Channel 4 news since 1989 where he has won numerous awards. Prior to his post at Channel 4 News, he worked as an ITN journalist for over a decade. He has acted as chairman or trustee for a number of charitable organisations. Many of his biographies mention his cycling as much as his famous, colourful ties. He has been a Patron of Sustrans and a judge of Transport for London's Cyclesafer Challenge for the past three years.
