CTC to survey railway station facilities
CTC, the national cyclists' organisation, has been commissioned by the Department for Transport to carry out a survey of the amount, quality and use of cycle parking provision at UK railway stations.
CTC members are being asked to survey the stations that they use themselves or are near their homes, work or other regular destination; some will also be asked to cover other stations on the rail network. The project is to be completed before the clocks change at the end of October, when journeys home in the dark are thought to discourage people from cycling.
In order to complete the project on time volunteers undertaking the survey will have the option of registering and updating their data electronically.
Dave Holladay, CTC Public Transport Campaigner, commented: "With 55,000 members to cover 2,500 stations, CTC hopes to achieve excellent results that can be used as a baseline to measure the level and quality of future cycle parking provision."
Details on how to take part in the survey will be available at www.ctc.org.uk from 1st October.
