The People's £50 Million:
Sustrans in the Final Four
The proposed cycle / pedestrian footbridge over the Foryd harbour at Rhyl, which is part of Sustrans Connect2 bid
Starting on the 24th November 2007 in front of ITV cameras, the British public will have the opportunity of assessing four contesting bids for the £50m of Connect2 Lottery Funding.
One will seek to enhance and protect Sherwood Forest for this and future generations. The Eden Project in Cornwall is aiming to help identify how the stewardship of the planet might be improved in the years to come. The third bid, The Black Country Urban Park, would enable 800,000 urban dwellers to gain greater access to the surrounding countryside.
And last, but certainly not least, is Sustrans Connect2 bid, seeking to link many UK communities by way of safe routes for cycling and walking as an alternative to using cars.
Sustrans’ Chief Executive John Grimshaw says:
“By making it easier to travel for local journeys on foot and by bike, Connect2 is the only short listed People’s £50 Million bid that would bring huge potential health and environmental benefits, not just for local communities, but for the whole of the UK, now – and for generations to come.”
Online voting for The People’s £50 Million Lottery Giveaway will opened at 9.00am on Monday 26 November 2007.
